Color calibration measures the color resistance of a device and adjusts it to a specific state. The ICC ( International Color Consortium) uses this information as a basis for further color characterization of the device and for the creation profile. For all devices that are involved in a color-management workflow, a color calibration is mandatory.
The various calibration methods differ in their result:
The best result is clearly provided by pure hardware calibration. As opposed to software calibration or combined soft- and hardware calibration, there is no loss of tonal values with hardware calibration. This is therefore the only method recommended in the professional environment.
